X-FACTOR: Brian Branch TRANSFORMS Detroit Lions Defense + Lions Offensive Line: Cade Mays Review
Brian Branch transforms the Detroit Lions defense, forcing the Green Bay Packers to adjust their entire offensive strategy in Week 8. His return led to a season-low 17 points allowed and top Pro Football Focus grades across the NFL, making him a true X-factor in the Lions secondary alongside Aidan Hutchinson and Rock Ya-Sin. The Detroit defense, previously struggling, now has a clear leader with Branch’s dynamic playmaking and ability to shut down explosive plays.
Meanwhile, the offensive line faces a new challenge as Cade Mays struggles in his debut at center, raising questions about his fit heading into a critical matchup with the Minnesota Vikings’ relentless blitz-heavy defense. With Juice Scruggs waiting in the wings and high expectations for the Lions O-line, can Mays quickly step up and solidify his spot? Detroit’s offense looks to recapture its form and finish drives as a crucial NFC North showdown approaches.
